Special Support Centre (SSC)
Our Special Support Centre (SSC), is based within Horsham Nursery School. The nursery school is an impressive purpose built open plan building with a large garden. Children in the SSC use the whole nursery as well as working in the smaller SSC space (Rainbow Room) for interventions with the therapist and teaching staff. In addition, there is a Sensory room and a Soft Play area.
Staffing
The SSC is staffed by the teacher in charge, and qualified and experienced teaching assistants, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and a Speech and Language Therapist (3 days a week).
Children’s speech and language needs
The SSC is for children with specific, significant speech and language needs, including a delay or disorder in receptive language, expressive language, speech sound production, attention and auditory skills and social communication.
Admissions and Attendance
Children may be offered a place in the SSC following a referral by a Speech and Language Therapist, member of the Portage team or a Health Visitor. Children are expected to attend for either five mornings or five afternoons each week to maximise the opportunities and support available.
If you are a parent and would like to know more about our SSC provision please contact us and we will be happy to arrange for you to visit and discuss your child individual needs.
See here for our admissions protocol.
